RedHat

  • RH9 server and workstation filesystems can be found over at usermodelinux.org. These are complete disk-images with a root partition and swap partition. There is also a shell script to get you up and running.
  • Instructions for building your own RH9/RH8 partition are here (Written by Oleg Drokin)
  • ftp://ftp.express.org/pub/uml/ has some RH9 stuff for you.
  • Some of the RH9 filesystems where specifically targetted for i686s and users with lesser machines (ie AMDs & i586s) aren't able to use them. They get a SIGILL CMOV not supported by processor error.
  • Another set of RH9 images can be found here. The instructions are here.

?OS

  • The last changes/updates in ?OS I noticed were arround summer 2003. Because ?OS's package manager ?PM really is interesting, I am thinking about converting my ?OS umls into something like (B)LFS plus ?PM. This is not really for daily use up to now but a nice piece for experimenting and learning. Comments and help both are welcome ;-) ... -- 2004-03-10, UlfBartelt

Openswan testing root

  • UML Root filesystems - Openswan does nightly regression testing in a UML environment. For this, we've created a small (< 128MB) root filesystem, designed for debugging network applications. This is a copy of the system we use for the nightly builds, so you can replicate our environment for testing your own extensions to Openswan, before submitting patches.

Others have also used this as a base for building embedded Openswan based boxes.

Building root filesystems

If you wish to build your own, see BuildingRootFileSystems.
